Famous Player 5: Oliver Kahn

His full name is Oliver Rolf Kahn. He was born June 15, 1969 in Karlsruhe, Germany. He was a German soccer player and played the position of the goalkeeper for Bayern Munich. From 1988 until 1994, Kahn played for Karlsruher. He has played 86 games for the Germany national team. His nicknames are "King Kahn" or "the titan".

Kahn begun his career at Karlsruher SC and in 1994 was transferred to Bayern Munich, his last professional club. He's a modern goalkeeper, that manages his defenders splendidly and he also has the power of character to make himself heard and esteemed by his teammates, which is a surprising achievement considering he's playing together with world class superstars at Bayern Munich and the German national team.

He is one of the most triumphant and famous soccer players of German in latest history, having won eight German championships, six German cups, the UEFA Cup in 1996, the UEFA Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup, both in 2001.

His personal contributions have received him four consecutive UEFA Best European Goalkeeper awards, three IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper of the Year awards. He is regarded to be one of the greatest goalkeepers of the all time and is the only goalkeeper in the history of football to win the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball (in World Cup 2002).

At 38 years of age, the majority players, even goalkeepers, make a decision to hang up their soccer boots, but not Oliver Kahn. For all we know, we might as well observe Oliver Kahn play for Germany in yet another World Cup in 2010.

Famous Player 4: Jürgen Klinsmann


Jürgen Klinsmann was born in Göppingen in 30 July 1964. He is a German soccer manager and ex- soccer player, who played for some outstanding clubs in Europe and was part of the West German squad that won the 1990 FIFA World Cup and the German team that won the 1996 UEFA European Championship. Klinsmann was one of West Germany's premier strikers for the period of the 90s.

Klinsmann was first got in to football at the age of 8. At that time, he played every position, even goalkeeper as he has not yet discovered his inborn scoring aptitude. He began his career in the second division club Stuttgart Kickers. The big club in the city, Vfb Stuttgart signed him when he two years afterward became top scorer in the division. He would spend his next five seasons there and attained much achievement, both individually and with the squad. 1988 was his first big year. He was tops corer of the Bundesliga and was chosen "German Player of the Year".

Since then, Klinsmann has played for 6 other soccer clubs: VfB Stuttgart (Germany), Internazionale (Italy), AS Monaco (France), Tottenham Hotspur (England), Bayern Munich (Germany) and Sampdoria (Italy).

Jurgen Klinsmann is an iconic figure for modern day soccer in Germany and he had a real contribution in assisting Germany win the 1990 World Cup and the 1996 European Championship.

Klinsmann proclaimed he would deicide to make retirement after the World Cup in France 1998. The press had criticized him for being "over the hill". But in the World Cup he gave contribution on making three goals as Germany once more bowed out in the quarterfinals. However, he is one of the legends in German soccer with 108 caps and almost 50 goals.

He managed the German national team to a third-place finish in the 2006 World Cup.

Famous Player 3: Lothar Matthäus


His full name is Lothar Herbert Matthäus. He was born in Erlangen, West Germany on 21 March 1961. He is a German ex- soccer player and at this time manager, last managing Israeli club Maccabi Netanya. His playing position in the field is as an Attacking Midfielder or Defensive Midfielder.

Lothar Matthäus is one of the most successful players ever in world football. He began his career in a local club called FC Herzogenaurach. Matthaus made his World Cup first appearance in the 1982 tournament. He played the role as a midfield support player, appearing in a few games.

Lothar Matthäus was labeled European Footballer of the Year and World Soccer Player of the Year In 1990, after captaining West Germany to triumph in the 1990 World Cup. One year later, he was also entitled the first ever FIFA World Player of the Year.

He has played in five World Cups (1982, 1986, 1990, 1994, and 1998) and holds the record for the most World Cup matches played (25 games). He won Euro 1980, and played in Euro 1984, Euro 1988, and Euro 2000. In 1999, he was again chosen German Footballer of the Year.

Matthäus is a member of the FIFA 100 – a list of 125 of the greatest living soccer players selected by Pelé.

In December 2002 Matthäus was signed by Partizan Belgrade. Matthäus attained the essential success and his bright moments came in August 2003 when Partizan beat Newcastle United in the 3rd qualifying round to get to the 2003/04 Champions League. Matthäus left his post at Partizan in December 2003 and signed becoming a coach for Hungarianry national team. Afterward, on 11 January 2006 Matthäus signed a one-year agreement to be a coach of Atlético Paranaense of Brazil. Matthäus was signed as coach of Red Bull Salzburg on May 19, 2006 in common with Trapatonni for the 2006/2007 season.

Famous Player 2: Franz Beckenbauer


His full name is Franz Anton Beckenbauer. He was born 11 September 1945. He was born in Munich as the second son of Antonie Beckenbauer and began playing football with SC Munich `06. Now he is a German soccer player coach, manager, and ex-player. He has nickname Der Kaiser ("The Emperor").

Franz Beckenbauer is the best soccer player that Germany has ever produced. He is in general considered as the greatest German soccer player of all time and as one of the greatest soccer players in the history of the game as well.

He joined the Bayern Munich youth team aged fourteen. He made his first appearance with Bayern in the Regionalliga (Regional League South) in June 1964 and advanced to the Bundesliga in 1965. Bayern rapidly became a force in the new German league, winning the German Cup in 1966-67 and attaining European victory in the Cup Winners` Cup in 1967. Beckenbauer became captain of the team for the 1968-69 season and led his club to their first league title.

He got many awards. But it is not only for the medals and trophies that Beckenbauer is remembered. Rather it is for the technique and the brilliance. All movement he made on the playing field bristled with stylishness. There was arrogance in his games that suggested he was always in command - "Emperor Franz" and "The Kaiser" they called him. But more than that, he was a great thinker in relation to the game and brought about a revolution in the way it is played by inventing the position of the attacking sweeper.

Famous Player 1: Sepp Maier

His full name is Josef Dieter "Sepp" Maier. He was born in 28 February 1944. He is one of former professional German players of soccer with position as goalkeeper.

He was born in Metten, Bavaria. He spent the total of his proficient playing career at Bayern Munich, succeeding the Bundesliga Championship four times and the European Cup three times successively. Sepp" Maier played between 1966 and 1977 in an unremitting series of 422 matches, still a German national record.

Sepp Maier was one of the greatest goalkeepers as long as a period which saw a lot of great goalkeepers rise to prominence, especially in Europe. He was chosen West German soccer player of the year three times.

Sepp Maier’s goalkeeping aptitude was matched simply by his eccentricity, seeing that Maier was considered as a bit of a joker by many players and fans. This impression was augmented in one game which Bayern were dominating without difficulty, Maier turned his consideration to hunting a duck which had got stricken in the Olympia Stadion, rather than focus on the game.

Apart from his sense of humor, he was a really great keeper, who had the fate of winning nearly each competition he played in at least once, including a World Cup for West Germany in year 1974, a European Championship in 1972, the Intercontinental Cup in 1976, UEFA Cup Winners Cup in 1967, European Cup in 1974, 1975, 1976, and Bundesliga in 1969, 1972, 1973, 1974.

His greatest achievement came in 1974 when he assisted his national part to triumph in the Football World Cup 1974, World Cup final in his home city of Munich. In total he took part in his country 95 times.
